Looking Back on 2018

So this blog has cobwebs all over it. It’s been a FULL year. As a mom, I’m learning to go where the grace is, and grace hasn’t been there for writing in this form.

As I was thinking back on this year, I realized I haven’t had a chance to share with you guys some of the new things we’ve stepped into this year… some that have been coming for quite a while.

It’s been a beautiful year watching Landrum grow.  We celebrated his 1st birthday in February…

which means he’s now almost 2.

How is this possible?!

Andrew and I snuck away in May, just the two of us, to celebrate ten years of marriage. Having that time together was such a gift, and it gave us space to really lean in and hear His voice.  He confirmed so many things on that trip and prepared our hearts for the new season ahead.

While away, we started this book.

And I can’t possibly do it justice with some short description of it.  Just order yourself one! Bob Goff is one of the best story tellers I’ve ever come across.  This book will make you belly laugh, cry, and determine afresh to go after all you were put on this earth for.

Not long after our anniversary trip, we stepped out of the boat, away from the corporate world we’ve known and toward the dreams in our hearts.

One of the words we heard the Father saying over this year was “risk.”  And risk we have! It’s been a fun adventure, following His lead, letting go of what could be false comforts, and positioning ourselves to know Him – and experience Him – more than ever before.

It’s funny how this life of faith works.  It goes right against the grain of American culture that demands a five and ten year plan, boasts in personal competence, and sacrifices a fully alive heart for a bigger bottom line.  We’ve been trained in the West to value things that simply don’t fit with life in the Kingdom.

Andrew and I aren’t sure exactly where things will end up, how long it will take, or what the road map to get there looks like.  But we’re following the One who’s already gone before us, and it’s the best, most exciting place to be.  I’m convinced it’s out on the water with Him where we’re meant to live.

In August we discovered we have another baby on the way! This spring we’ll welcome a baby brother to our family!

This fall we launched Post & Gate, an exciting venture we’ve been working on quietly with our friends-turned-partners for about a year and a half now.  It’s all about creating art from Scripture and using these designs to breathe life and hope into the hearts that encounter our pieces.  We incorporate the original Hebrew and Greek in our designs and unpack the significance of the featured passages on our podcast.  Words carry power, and we want to sow words of life in every capacity imaginable.

Thus far, we’ve created wall art, apparel, stationery, and Christmas ornaments.  We have some exciting things coming down the pipeline early in the new year – so be sure to subscribe to our podcast and follow us on Instagram and Facebook @postngate to stay posted on what’s happening!

There’s much more I could share about this new business than will possibly fit in this little blog post – so don’t hesitate to reach out to me if you are interested in what we’re doing and would like to know more!

Andrew is now venturing into real estate and would love to help you in purchasing or selling your residential or commercial property if you are in the Upstate SC area! He is part of Engage Real Estate Group, which has a heart for sowing into our community and remembering the orphan while pursuing business. It’s a vision we are excited to get behind!  You can reach Andrew at andrewhewitt@engagerealestate.net.

So this is a little snapshot of our very full year.  We’ve said goodbye to a previous season, launched out toward some dreams, and held on tightly to this second year of Landrum’s life.  We’re stepping into 2019 with deep gratitude for what has been and great excitement for what’s ahead. Praying for hope to rise in you as we step into this new year!

  1. Love your update, Hayley. Looking forward to hearing about your ventures in 2019. May God’s blessings be upon your “risks” (we know it’s “faith”) as you walk with God into all He has for you this new year!
